Gloucester County Public Schools Division & School Report Cards

School performance is measured according to two separate and distinct rating systems, one established by the state of Virginia and the other by the federal government.

In July 2012, Virginia was granted ESEA flexibility waivers, which establish annual measureable objectives (AMOs) for raising overall reading and mathematics achievement and the achievement of student subgroups. Virginia has established AMOs designed to reduce proficiency gaps between high- and low-performing schools within six years. Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) ratings are no longer issued by the commonwealth.

A school’s state accreditation rating reflects overall achievement in the four core academic areas. In addition, high schools must meet a minimum benchmark for graduation and completion. Ratings are based on the achievement of students on tests taken during the previous academic year or may reflect a three-year average of achievement. Schools are rated as Fully Accredited if students meet or exceed all achievement objectives established by the Virginia Board of Education.  Accreditation is determined by student achievement on SOL tests and other approved assessments are reflected in the School Accreditation ratings. Please refer to the Virginia Department of Education Accountability Guidelines for School Report Cards for more information.

The Standards of Learning, established by the Commonwealth of Virginia for public schools, describe expectations for student learning and achievement in grades K-12 in English, mathematics, science, history and social science, technology, the fine arts, foreign language, health and physical education, and driver education.

School Report Cards are updated yearly.
